Soulful Strides:
My Word for the Year – Inheritance
January 2024
Hey there, Bible and Gym Friends family! As we step into this brand-new year, I wanted to share
something that’s been on my mind – my word for the year: Inheritance. No, it’s not about getting a windfall from a long-lost relative (although that would be nice). It’s about something deeper and more meaningful. When I think of inheritance, it’s not just about the financial aspect, though that’s important too. It’s about what we’re passing down to those who look up to us, our legacy, and the kind of footprints we leave behind. Picture this:
You’re at the family reunion, and you’re handed a box filled with qualities, traits, and values that have been passed down through generations. Some are beautiful and uplifting, while others, well, let’s just say they’re not exactly what you’d call “treasures.” I| think back to what I inherited from my own family tree. My mom gave me a powerful, bold spirit and a confidence that could move mountains. My dad, on the other hand, gifted me with an unmatched work ethic and a blueprint for financial security.
Now, I’m looking at my own family – my spouse, my kids, my friends – and I can’t help but wonder:
What am I passing down to them? It’s not just about the lessons I teach or the wisdom I share; it’s about the values they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. This year, I’ve decided to focus on my inheritance – not just what I’m receiving, but what I’m leaving behind. I want to ensure that the adults who look to me for guidance and the kids who look up to me are inheriting qualities and values that I truly believe in. So, as we embark on this journey together, let’s reflect on our own inheritances – the good, the not-so-good, and everything in between. Let’s work on being intentional about what we pass down and make sure it’s something worth treasuring. Here’s to a year of stewarding our inheritances – financial, emotional, spiritual – and leaving a legacy we can be proud of. Cheers to 2024, Bible and Gym Friends!
